WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass — The Mount Greylock boys' basketball team wants to be as ready as it can be for the upcoming Division 3 Western Mass. tournament. After their performance on Thursday night, it appears as if the Mounties are right where they need to be with one week left in the regular season.

Greylock cruised to a 72-55 home win over Monument Mountain, using a 15-3 run in the third quarter to blow open a fairly competitive game. The Spartans (7-12) fell behind 18-10 after the first quarter but stayed within striking distance at halftime, trailing by 10 points at the start of the third quarter. The Mounties (14-4) locked their guests down on defense, however, surrendering just three points all quarter to open up a 22-point lead.

"It was a good defensive game, and we had balanced scoring," Greylock head coach Bob Thistle said. "We have a huge week coming up as we prepare for the tournament."

Sophomore guard Tyrell Thomas had a very nice game, scoring a game-high 22 points while making 8 of 10 shots from the foul line. He also led the Mounties in both rebounds (nine) and assists (four). Junior guard Hank Barrett chipped in with 15 points, five steals and three assists, while classmate Tyler Picard finished with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Nick Greenleaf scored 15 points to pace Monument. Greylock has two huge South Division games to close out the season. The Mounties first welcome St. Joe's on Monday night before closing out the year with another home game against Lee on Wednesday.
