Patriots Too Much for Undersized Blue Devils

BENNINGTON, Vt. -- A lack of size and a disadvantage on the boards did the Drury boys' basketball in against Mount Anthony on Tuesday night. The Blue Devils kept the game close up until halftime, but the Patriots pulled away in the second half for a 67-46 win at home.

Drury head coach Jack Racette was not happy with the loss but felt upbeat about the way his team competed against a 4-0 Mount Anthony squad. The Blue Devils (3-2) trailed 19-14 after the first quarter and were hanging tough until a late run gave the Patriots a 10-point lead heading into halftime. Mount Anthony forwards Chad Pulver and Charles McVay, who each scored a game-high 14 points, established their will as the game went on, and the hosts pulled away in the third quarter by outscoring Drury 21-12 in the frame.

Senior captain Tyler Benoit led the Blue Devils with 13 points, while junior Robert Jutras also had a solid game with nine points and four rebounds.

"They pressed us from start to finish and eventually wore us down," Racette said. "We got great minutes from Jake Tietgens (six points) and Jutras, and I thought point guard Cody Wemette (six points) did a great job of controlling the offense again."

Drury next plays at Pioneer at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night.
