CHESHIRE, Mass. — Matt Koperniak lead the Hoosac Valley boys basketball team with 13 points as they downed Drury, 54-47, Thursday night.

Koperniak scored eight of his 13 points in the third quarter, including six from long range.

“He did play better in the second half, we need him,” Hoosac coach Bill Robinson said. “We had some others that stepped up and scored for us, and that was key.”

Dahndray Sistrunk contributed with 12 points for the Hurricanes (3-4), and Jameson Coughlan had eight.

For Drury (7-2), Hayden Bird had 17, and Reece Racette added 15.

This was Drury’s second loss in a row and first road game of the season.

Hoosac came out the gates strong, grabbing a 10-2 lead early, but Drury was able to claw its way back to a 22-20 lead at half. After the break,Hoosac put on a nice display of shooting, knocking down five 3-pointers in the the third quarter to take a two-point lead going into the fourth.

The final quarter saw great effort by both teams going back and forth, but it was Hoosac who prevailed with a balanced scoring attack

“it was a team effort tonight," Robinson said. "It wasn’t one or two guys, which will only help us down the road.”

Hoosac Valley will look to build off of this win as it travels to Mount Greylock Saturday night. Drury will go on the road against Greenfield Monday night looking to stop its two-game skid.
