SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Alicia Mitchell scored 18 points Tuesday to lead the Springfield International Charter School girls basketball team to a 58-50 win over Drury.

She scored eight of those points in the third quarter, when the Bulldogs outscored the Blue Devils, 16-8, to take an eight-point lead into the fourth.

Drury battled back to make it close before Springfield ICS was able to pull away at the end.

“I couldn’t be happier with how hard my kids played,” Drury coach Ian Downey said. “If not for a rough shooting third, the game would have been anybody’s. Despite the tough third the girls battled to make it a two-possession game with 1:30 left after a Jacinta Felix free throw.

“We then missed three free throws and had a layup blocked trying to make it a one-possession game. Then we fouled on purpose, and unfortunately the referee called it an intentional foul which allowed them to push the lead back up to eight.”

Kayla McGrath scored 17 points, and Alyssa Russell scored 15 to lead Drury.

The Blue Devils (8-7) host Agawam on Thursday.
