NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Kayla McGrath scored 27 points, and the Drury girls basketball team played lockdown defense to earn a 58-31 win over Agawam on Thursday night.

The visitors managed just 10 points in the first half as the Blue Devils (9-7) snapped a two-game losing streak.

“The entire game was a total team effort,” Drury coach Ian Downey said. “We were active, had energy, hustled and were swarming at times. By far our best defensive game of the year. To turn an 18-point loss from eight days ago [in Agawam] into a 27-point win tonight was awesome to see.

“The girls came into the game like they wanted to prove that the last time we played them was Drury basketball. And they did that. Awesome team effort. So proud of them.”

Alyssa Russell hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points, and Lauren Davis scored eight in the win.

“Offensively, we moved the ball so well against their zone, inside and out, ball reversals and most importantly we found the open girl,” Downey said. “We also made shots which helps.”

“On to Greylock [Friday], who always plays us tough. Hope to keep the momentum going and carry this energy to the tournament.”
