NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Things turned around rather quickly for the McCann Tech girls' basketball team on Tuesday. The Hornets had lost three straight games heading into its home contest with Holyoke Catholic, a team that defeated McCann by four points in the first game of the year.

The Hornets returned the favor and probably saved their season, however, with a 46-32 win at the Hive on Tuesday night. Mike  Dowling's club improved to 2-5 on the year but, more importantly, evened up its league record at 1-1.

A big reason for McCann's success on Tuesday was the play of senior Mary Nguyen. The Hornets guard broke out for a career-high 27 points, knocking down three 3-pointers and 10 free throws in the game. After going into halftime with the score tied at 18 points apiece, the Hornets pulled away by doubling up the Gaels 28-14 in the second half.

Junior forward Eileen Zajac added seven points and 10 rebounds for McCann, which next hosts Putnam at 7 p.m. on Friday.
