MONSON, Mass. – Julia Devoti scored 19 points Monday and the sixth-seeded Mount Everett girls basketball team jumped out to a nine-point half-time lead en route to a 51-41 upset over No. 3 Monson in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class D tournament.

Maggy Sarnacki scored 14 with four 3-pointers, and Emma Goewey added 10.

“What a great game today for our girls,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. “They played a great game on the offensive and defensive end. Got a little intense at the end of game, but the girls rose to the challenge. The entire game had a tournament atmosphere and I was proud of how we handled ourselves as a team.”

Mount Everett (8-11) has won five of its last six games going into Wednesday’s regional semi-final at South County rival Lee.
