GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass — After hitting a serious bump in the road in its last game, the Hoosac Valley girls' basketball team got back on the right track on Tuesday night, earning a 55-40 win at Monument Mountain.

The Hurricanes (7-2) were cruising right along this season, riding a five-game win streak before taking one on the chin in a 26-point loss at Lenox on Monday night. Ron Wojcik's team answered the call against the Spartans, however, overcoming a four-point deficit at halftime by outscoring the hosts 33-14 in the second half. Hoosac cut its turnovers down from 14 to six after the break and took control of the contest with a strong effort on the defensive end.

"After a sluggish first half, we cleaned up our turnovers," Wojcik said. "We then turned up the energy and defensive pressure and got out and ran. It was a good win after a bad loss on Monday."

Three different players scored in double figures for the 'Canes, led by sophomore Jenn Gale's game-high 16 points. In addition to bringing the heat on the defensive end, junior point guard Tori Rumbolt netted 15 points to along with three rebounds and two assists. Freshman forward Emily Rosse rebounded from her quietest game of the season to notch 11 points and 12 boards.

After trailing by one point after the first quarter, Monument (0-9) outscored the visitors 16-11 in the second quarter to earn a 26-22 lead at halftime. Sam White and Jen Cavanaugh each scored nine points to pace the Spartans' offense.

Hoosac next plays at Taconic at 7 p.m. on Monday.
