CHESHIRE, Mass. — The Hoosac Valley girls' basketball team rolled into the final of its own holiday tournament on Friday, defeating Sci-Tech 68-16 in the opening round. The Hurricanes held the Cybercats to just two first-half points, opening up an astounding 37-2 lead at the break.

"Our pressure forced numerous turnovers, and we were able to get down the court in transition and run out to a big halftime lead," Hoosac head coach Ron Wojcik said.

Twelve different players found the scoring column for the Hurricanes, led by freshman Madison Ryan's 10-point, three-assist effort. Junior guard Jenn Gale added eight points and eight rebounds, while sophomore forward Emily Rosse chipped in with eight points and six boards.

Delena Gasque led the Sci-Tech offense with seven points. Hoosac next takes on Taconic in the tournament final at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Braves defeated Palmer 49-40 in the other game on Friday night for their first win of the season.
