This week's iBerkshires.com/Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Athletes of the Week lead their teams into quarter-final play in Western Massachusetts tournament action.

Pittsfield High senior Ryan LaPierre finished the season strong for the Wahconah coop hockey team.

He had five goals and an assist in his team's last three games, helping Wahconah finish the year with a record of 14-3-2 and the third seed in the Division 3A sectional.

Wahconah Tuesday will face No. 6 Belchertown (7-8-3) at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield for a berth in the Western Mass semi-finals on Saturday.

In girls basketball, Taconic is looking to get back to the D2 final -- and beyond.

It is starting this year's title run in familiar territory, as the No. 3 seed and at home in Thursday's quarter-final, this time against Quabbin (15-5).

Taconic (18-2) has won five of its last six, and the one loss came at Wachusett, which is seeded second in the Central Mass Division 1 tournament with a record of 20-0 ... and that loss was by just six points.

Ciany Conyers scored 12 points against Wachusett and finished the regular season two nights later with a triple-double against Monument Mountain, scoring 14 points while compiling 11 steals and 10 assists.

For the season, Conyers is averaging 13.8 points and three assists per game.

The iBerkshires.com Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
