Greylock Plays Tough in Loss to Unbeaten Lee

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Lee girls' basketball team probably didn't expect to be tied with Mount Greylock after three quarters of play on Thursday. After playing so well for a majority of the game, the Mounties probably didn't expect to be outscored 17-2 in the fourth quarter on their way to a 53-38 loss at home.

Even in defeat, Greylock (4-7) has to be pleased with how it competed against the 13-0 Wildcats. Led by senior forward Sierra Holland, the Mounties had a good night shooting the basketball. Holland connected on four 3-pointers on her way to a team-high 16 points, and Paul Barrett's club started strong by earning a 13-10 lead after the first quarter of play. Lee battled back to earn a three-point edge at halftime, but Greylock remained strong in the third quarter, tying the game at 36 all heading into the fourth.

"We hung with the Wildcats after three quarters, but a 17-2 run by Lee to end the game quieted any hopes of an upset," Barrett said. "Sierra kept us in it for most of the game, but Lee got its fastbreak going to close out the game, and we ran out of gas."

The Wildcats' Eileen Dooley came up big for her team in the fourth, scoring nine of her 13 points in the final quarter. Forward Stephanie Young scored a game-high 20 points for Lee, which also received 10 points from Megan Gaul.

Freshman guard Lucy Barrett chipped in with 12 points for the Mounties, who next play at Pittsfield at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night.
