WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass — Things were definitely going the way the Mount Greylock girls' basketball team wanted it to when a long scoring drought popped up out of nowhere, leading to the Mounties' 52-46 home loss to Taconic on Tuesday night.

Down 22-14 after the first quarter, Greylock (5-9) stormed back in the game thanks to a 19-9 scoring edge in the second frame. Freshman guard Lucy Barrett was shooting lights out in the first half, netting 22 points in the first 16 minutes of the game to give the Mounties a 33-31 lead at the break.

The Braves (4-9) made some much needed adjustments at halftime, however, and responded by holding Greylock to just three points total in the third quarter alone. They also bottled up Barrett, who scored only four more points in the second half. Taconic led by six points heading into the fourth quarter and the two teams traded baskets the rest of the way to allow the visitors to hold of for the win.

"We kept battling back," Mounties head coach Paul Barrett said. "We were down by 12 points in the second half, but we got it down to four. We had a couple of good looks that didn't fall, and we had to foul. We needed to rebound and defend better."

The loss put a huge damper on the Greylock's chances of making the postseason. In order to clinch a spot for the Division 3 Western Mass. tournament, Barrett's squad must win five out of its final six games to finish the season with a .500 record. Despite the loss, Lucy Barrett still had a career night by draining six 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 26 points. Junior forward Alex Majetich also chipped in with seven points and seven assists.

The Braves had three players score in double figures on the night, led by Nyanna Slaughter and Kirsten McNeice, who each netted 11 points. Angela O'Neil added 10 points for Taconic, which broke a four-game losing streak with the win.

Greylock next plays at South Division rival Lenox at 7 p.m. on Friday.
