Drury Defense Locks Down Greylock

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Drury girls' basketball team earned its second win over a North County rival in less than a week on Monday night, putting the defensive clamps down on Mount Greylock in a 45-15 win in the opening round of the Gene Wein Holiday Tournament.
Five days after defeating Hoosac Valley 48-34 in the season opener, the Blue Devils (2-0) put in an even more impressive showing against the Mounties, holding Greylock (1-1) to only five points the entire second half. With the score tied at seven points apiece with three minutes left in the first quarter, John Franzoni's squad broke out with a 7-0 run to end the quarter. Drury eventually scored 20 of the next 22 points, giving the hosts a 27-9 lead with with less than two minutes remaining in the first half.
The host Blue Devils sealed a spot in Tuesday night's championship game with a 13-2 scoring advantage in the third quarter. Drury will meet up with Lenox, which earned a 45-34 win over Wahconah in the first game of the tournament.
"It was a tremendous defensive effort from our entire team tonight," Franzoni said. "Danielle Racette and Ali Tatro both played tough defense, and we quickly converted missed shots and turnovers into baskets in transition. Danielle dominated the game on both ends of the court with 20 points, six rebounds, six assists, four blocked shots and two steals in less than three quarters of game action."
Racette scored half of her 20 points from the foul line, while Tatro chipped in with four points and six boards. Junior Shannon Garvey and sophomore Morgan Lamarre added six points apiece for the Devils, who tip off with the Millionaires at 7:30 on Tuesday night.
Freshman Lucy Barrett scored a team-high four points for the Mounties, who meet up with the Warriors in the 6 p.m. consolation game.
