MG Shoots Lights Out in Win over St. Joe's

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — One game after struggling to score into the 30s in a loss to Hoosac Valley, the Mount Greylock girls' basketball team dusted off its shooting touch, draining eight 3-pointers on its way to a 75-40 home win over Saint Joseph's on Monday night.

The friendly confines of the Mountie Dome must have paid dividends for the Greylock offense, which exploded for 44 points in the first half alone, resulting in a 28-point lead at the break. Senior forward Caitie Benoit, who was shut out in last week's loss to the Hurricanes, knocked down four threes on the night on her way to scoring 17 points. Classmate Sierra Holland added three more triples to finish with 15 points, while Greylock freshman Lucy Barrett, despite only hitting one trey, led all scorers with 18 points.

"The girls found their confidence and shooting touches, but they also found their teammates, dishing out 19 assists against a much-improved St. Joe's squad," Mounties head coach Paul Barrett said. "The Crusaders found their range from beyond the arc as well, hitting three threes on the night."

Greylock (4-4) kept the pressure on in the second half, outscoring St. Joe's (4-3) by seven points after halftime. Marissa Avanzato led the Crusaders by hitting a pair of 3-pointers to finish with 10 points. Kendall Smith also had a solid game, scoring eight points and grabbing nine rebounds.

The Mounties next play at Wahconah at 7 p.m. on Thursday. St. Joe's will next host Miss Hall's School at 7 p.m. on Friday.
