Benoit's Big Night Sparks Mounties to Victory

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass — Caitie Benoit doesn't have too many games left playing for the Mount Greylock girls' basketball team. With the performance she put forth on Friday night, it seems Benoit is doing her best to make the most of her remaining time with the Mounties.
The senior captain had her best game of the season against Mount Everett, draining four 3-pointers and scoring a career-high 22 points to lead Greylock to 61-41 win at the Mountie Dome. Benoit did most of her damage in the first half, scoring 18 points as the Mounties jumped out to a 25-18 lead at the break. Benoit also came through with a team-high 10 rebounds for Greylock, which improved its record to 7-10 and kept its postseason hopes alive with the win.
"Caitie was the all-around player of the game," Mounties head coach Paul Barrett said. "She broke out in a big way. She was the story of the first half by hitting four 3-point hoops. We used a balanced scoring attack and were able to weather the offensive onslaught of Deseraye Conaway to pick up the win."
With Greylock focused on stopping forward Tara Sullivan, who scored just two points, Conaway was able to go off for a game-high 31 points. Even with Conaway's huge effort, the Eagles (9-8) were outscored by the hosts in every quarter, falling behind by 14 points heading into the fourth. Once Benoit slowed down in the second half, freshman Lucy Barrett and senior Sierra Holland picked up the slack for the Mounties. The two combined to score 26 of Greylock's 36 points after halftime, with Barrett netting all 18 of her points in the second half. Holland scored eight of her 11 points after the break while also grabbing four rebounds and dishing out three assists.
Senior point guard Kaylene Lemme had a good all-around game for the Mounties, finishing with four points, nine boards and a team-high six assists. Junior forward Alex Majetich was steady as well, scoring four points while also grabbing six rebounds and playing stellar defense.
Greylock next hosts Hoosac Valley in a key South Division matchup at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
