Mounties Struggle to Score in Loss to Warriors

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Chances are, the Mount Greylock girls' basketball team is ready to kiss the Gene Wein Holiday Tournament goodbye.

It was a rough two days for the Mounties, who struggled on offense in both of their tournament games against Drury and Wahconah. One day after scoring just 15 points in an opening-round loss to the Blue Devils, Paul Barrett's squad was only slightly better in a 57-28 loss to the Warriors in Tuesday night's consolation game.

The problems for Greylock (1-2) came in the second and third quarters when the Mounties combined to score just seven points. Greylock started off well enough, trailing Wahconah just 15-11 after the first quarter. The Warriors pulled away with a 10-2 edge in the second quarter, however, and padded their 25-13 lead at halftime with a 18-5 run in the third.

Gabby Lavinio led Wahconah with a game-high 20 points, while Shannon Lussier chipped in with 13 points of her own. Freshman Lucy Barrett came though with a solid effort for the Mounties, scoring nine points to go along with nine rebounds and three assists. Both Lavinio and Barrett were selected to the All-Tournament team immediately following Drury's win over Lenox in the tournament final.

Greylock has one more game before Christmas, a home matchup with Tantasqua at 7 p.m. on Friday.
