CHESHIRE, Mass. -- The Hoosac Valley girls' basketball team struggled on the offensive end against Wahconah on Wednesday night. Two nights later, the Hurricanes regrouped in a big way, placing 10 different players in the scoring column on its way to a commanding 59-24 win at home.

Sophomore forward Emily Rosse led the way for the Hurricanes (2-1) on Friday night, scoring a game-high 15 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Ron Wojcik's club got off to a hot start, scoring 19 points in the first quarter alone to open up a 12-point lead. Hoosac's defense then clamped down in the second quarter, holding the Beavers to just four points and giving the hosts a 34-11 edge at halftime.

The Hurricanes slammed the door shut in the fourth quarter, outscoring Putnam 9-0 over the final eight minutes of the game.

"Our pressure forced a number of early turnovers, and we were able to get out and run to give us a big halftime lead," Wojcik said. "We will need to maintain that kind of defensive pressure no matter who we play. It was a good game for us to get back on track after a poor outing on Wednesday night."

Senior forward Tori Rumbolt added eight points and seven rebounds for Hoosac, while junior guard Jenn Gale chipped in with eight points and three boards.

Tazhane Springer scored a team-high nine points for the Beavers, who also received eight points from Justice Wallace.

The Hurricanes are off until Wednesday, when they host rival Drury at 7 p.m.
