CHESHIRE, Mass. -- The Hoosac Valley girls' basketball team pitched a shutout in the third quarter against Mount Everett on Thursday night. The Hurricanes outscored the Eagles 19-0 in the frame to bust the doors open on a 62-25 win at home.

Ron Wojcik's squad started clamping down on defense in the second quarter, holding Everett (7-9) to just four points in that period to open up a 30-14 lead at the break. Hoosac (12-5) then took control of the game in the third quarter, clinching a season sweep over the Eagles and helping the Hurricanes forget about a close loss to Pittsfield two nights earlier.

"We were looking to bounce back after a tough loss to PHS," Wojcik said. "We picked up our intensity and put the game away with a big run in the third quarter."

It was a balanced attack for Hoosac, which received a trio of 3-pointers and a game-high 13 points from sophomore guard Amber Lesure. Classmate Emily Rosse contributed nine points and five rebounds, while fellow sophomore Sydnee Gallup had a great all-around game with six points, four steals and a game-high nine rebounds. Point guard McKenzie Robinson, another sophomore Wojcik can turn to, also chipped in with seven points and a game-high eight assists.

Deseraye Conaway paced the Everett offense with 11 points.

The Hurricanes next play at St. Joe's at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
