PITTSFIELD, Mass. — In a battle between two of Berkshire County's best teams, Stephanie Young's performance in the third quarter proved to be the difference in the Lee girls' basketball team's 54-47 win over Pittsfield on Wednesday night.

Young took control for the Wildcats right after halftime, scoring 14 of her team's 16 points in the third quarter. That helped Lee (4-1) erase a one-point deficit at the break and give the Wildcats a seven-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. The two North Division rivals would match each other in the final quarter, as Young went on to score a game-high 22 points.

"Young caught fire in the second half and gave them a lead in the third quarter that they would hold for the rest of the game," Generals head coach Joe Racicot said. "It was really a game of two halves for us. In the first half, we were patient running our offense. But in the second half, the lack of patience on offense was our downfall."

Senior captain Courtney McLaughlin netted a team-high 14 points and three assists for Pittsfield, which fell to 3-2 with the loss. Sophomore forward Lauren Carnevale added 10 points and game-high 14 rebounds, while senior center Rachel Hunt chipped in with 11 boards.

Senior Eileen Dooley helped out with 13 points for Lee.

The Generals face another tough test on Monday when Drury comes to town for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
