CHESHIRE, Mass. -- The Hoosac Valley girls basketball team defeated Pittsfield, 60-44, Tuesday evening.

Sophomore Fallon Field led the Hurricanes with a game high of 20 points; 13 of them coming from the foul line.

“This week we were really preparing for them because we weren’t going to take anybody lightly,” Field said. “When you’re winning, people want to beat you; so we figured out their strengths and took it from there.”

Hoosac got an early lead on the Generals in the first half; a lot of the Hurricanes' points came from the foul line due to Pittsfield foul trouble. The Hurricanes were sent to the line a total of 14 times, while the Generals were sent there a total of four times.

Pittsfield started off in a zone defense, but switched over to man when Hoosac started hitting their outside shots.

“If we had a little better offensive performance in the first half we probably could have stayed in the zone a little longer,” Pittsfield coach Joe Racicot said. “Once they got the lead, they were real smart with the ball and took care of things and ran the shot clock down and took the life out of our game.”

The Hurricanes held a 33-18 lead at half.

In the third quarter, Pittsfield was able to bring the score within 10 points. The Generals scored 12 points to Hoosac’s seven, but the Hurricanes came back in the fourth and pushed the ball upcourt.

“I’ll give the girls credit; third quarter we came back within ten,” Racicot said. “But you need a couple big shots after that and we weren’t able to get that.”

Hoosac was able to contain Pittsfield’s Peyton Steinman and limit to her 12 points; she also fouled out in the fourth quarter.

Lauren Carnavale for Pittsfield finished with nine points and Allie Hunt finished with eight.

For Hoosac, Emily Rosse had 15 and Amber Lesure totaled nine points.

Hoosac (6-0) travels to Lenox on Jan. 9, and Pittsfield (3-1) hosts Lee on Friday.
