NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Peyton Steinman scored 21 points Thursday as the Pittsfield girls basketball team took down Drury, 53-43.
It was a well balanced game for Steinman as she hit from all parts of the floor, including 6-for-7 from the free throw line.
Allie Hunt scored 13, and Bella Aitken helped out with 10 of her own.
It was a game that saw Pittsfield (13-4), out in front for most of the competition, but it was by no means easy. Drury chipped away at the lead all game long, keeping Pittsfield on its toes.
“We got fortunate, for a while they were out rebounding us and outhustling us,” Pittsfield coach Joe Racicot said. “They are a scrappy team. They are going to keep coming at you.”
For Drury (12-5), Jenna Moulton had 10 points and Olivia Carlson had nine.
This ended an eight-game win streak by the Blue Devils.
This was the second game of the season between these two teams, and both games had similar outcomes. Drury fought hard to stay in the game and made a few runs late in the second half. But Steinman proved to be to strong for the Generals as they closed this game out.
“Any time you have a kid like that that can control the pace of the game, you usually have one up, so we are fortunate to have [Steinman]," Ricicot said.
Drury will take on Monson on the road Saturday, and Pittsfield will take on Wahconah Monday night.
