NORTH ADAMS - North Adams Regional Hospital will offer a special weekend birthing class for expectant parents August 15 to 17. The weekend will begin with an evening course on Friday, August 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., continuing on Saturday, August 16 from 4:30 – 8:30 p.m., and concluding Sunday, August 17 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The class will be held at the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire Community Room, 535 Curran Highway, North Adams, MA.

The course instructors are Colette Baran, a Lamaze certified childbirth educator and certified lactation counselor at the NARH Birthing Center, and Stephanie Vidmosko, RN, a registered nurse at the NARH Birthing Center.

Pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, one may call the NARH Birthing Center at 413-664-5127.

“This is a perfect opportunity for the expectant parents who are a little pressed for time or who can’t commit to the regular courses that take place over several weeks,” said Baran. “We have a great weekend of fun-filled activities and evidence-based information to help them have the birth experience they want.”

The classes will cover topics including labor and delivery, breathing and relaxation, communication skills, movement and positioning, support person techniques, acupressure, yoga, doula support, birth plans, pain relief options, breast-feeding with a lactation consultant, postpartum adjustments and a tour of the Birthing Center at NARH.

“The three-day course will help empower the expectant family with information and techniques to travel through their birth experience with confidence,” said Baran. “The parents not only leave this class feeling more prepared for labor and birth but many make connections with other parents and find support for their parenting journey in the community.”
