Romance, Soul & Rock N’ Roll, a Pittsfield based amateur musical revue has announced the dates for their 7th annual fall show. The group will perform October 17th & 18th, 7:30pm at Berkshire Community College’s Robert Boland Theater. They will return on November 15th, at 7:30pm to perform at the Colonial Theatre in downtown Pittsfield. Tickets for both shows are currently on sale.

All proceeds from their shows will benefit the Berkshire County Chapter of the Jimmy Fund. Last year, 2007, RSRR raised $18,900.45. All ticket proceeds raised from the shows are used in various ways to help local families stricken with cancer.

This year’s show will mark the seventh that show director and performer Ted Concepcion along with his Assistant Director, Donna Vidoli, have produced for the charity. Concepcion promises that this year’s show, entitled “Live From Pittsfield: Romance, Soul & Rock N’ Roll presents Feel The Beat”, will be their most entertaining yet. The show will be up to the same level of entertainment that audiences have come to expect and look forward to.

Joining Concepcion is a 23 member group of some of the most talented performers in Berkshire County. “We have an incredible cast of singers and dancers who have been working hard perfecting yet another entertaining show with all new songs and choreography in addition to a few surprises, a special medley sure to entertain all ages and a “first”, never attempted before by a charity show in the area!”, states Concepcion.

Concepcion’s hallmark continues to be his ability to recruit and direct an impressive array of both singers and dancers. The tightly choreographed dance numbers feature an enthusiastic group of young men and women. Their energy helps drive the show from its opening number through the second half and right into the finale. Leading the dancers once again this year is Dance Captain, Kate Frissell.

The six member live band is as impressive as the vocal line up, and is once again, along with the cast vocals, under the direction of co-musical directors Dave Flynn and Alan Gold.

All in all, the talented cast, band and crew promises this year’s show will be another thoroughly entertaining evening for show-goers.

Tickets for the Colonial performance are $22.00 & $14.00 and may be reserved on the Colonial website, www.thecolonialtheatre.org or by calling the Colonial Box Office at 413-997-4444. Tickets for the BCC performances are $13.00 and are available at Miller’s Art Supply, Wood Bros or Nuclea Biomarkers all in Pittsfield as well as from any cast, band or crew member or by calling 413-443-4984. Former Harry's Supermarket Under Construction for Restaurant

By Brittany PolitoiBerkshires Staff

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Construction is underway to transform the former Harry's Supermarket into a restaurant

Late last month, the Conservation Commission greenlit some tree pruning on the property. New windows and a new door can be seen in the front of the building.

"It's a substantial renovation that's currently underway here," Brent White of White Engineering said, speaking on behalf of the applicant and owner, Huajie Zhu.

A fire gutted the longtime Wahconah Street supermarket in 2023, and the following year, Zhu purchased the property for $460,000 two years ago to build a restaurant with hibachi in the existing footprint of the more than 100-year-old building.

White explained that the project has been ongoing for over a year, and the Community Development Board granted the property a waiver to reduce the minimum required number of parking spaces so that additional spaces aren't needed.

He noted that, looking at the site plan, there is very little room to do so. A mirror will be installed near the sharp turn on Bel Air Avenue to alleviate traffic concerns.

Pruning will be done on trees in the southeast corner of the existing paved parking lot, as a number of branches are hanging over. The new owners also intend to patch, sealcoat, and re-stripe the parking lot.

A fire tore through the building less than an hour after the supermarket closed for the day three years ago. An automatic sprinkler system is required for the new use.
