Sunday Eats on the Street

Previous Northern Berkshire Food Festivals have lured crowds to Main Street for adventures in tasting.
North Adams – Weather forecasts for June 26 predict it really will be too hot to cook, so here’s a suggestion: pack up the family and beat feet to Main Street for the fourth annual Northern Berkshire Food Festival. The event is set for a noontime kick-off, and 19 Northern Berkshire-based restaurants have signed on to offer entrée samples and more at next-to-nothing prices. Popular eateries including Angelina’s Sub Shop, Boston Sea Foods, Le Jardin, the Miss Adams Diner, Jae’s Inn, Taconic Restaurant, “ll”/Mezze, Spice Root Modern Indian Cuisine, Village Pizza, Gideon’s Restaurant/Gideon’s Luncheon and Nightery, Mountainview restaurant, the Red Herring, Lickety-Split, Desperado’s, How Sweet It Is, Bountifare/Gringos, and Moulton’s Pizzeria will join host restaurants Gramercy Bistro and Steeples restaurant for a smorgasbord of tastes meant to entice almost any palate. Tents will offer shady relief to patrons and vendors, and food purchase tickets will be available at two kiosks situated at the festival tent entrances. Tickets will cost $.50 each, and most food prices will range from $1 to $5 per item. Micro-brewed beer and wine tasting is part of the celebration, with West Liquors, Girardi Distributors, and the Berkshire Brewing Company expected to provide the beverages. Soft drinks will be available. While tongues savor eatery offerings, toes can be tapping to the live sounds of Tom Corrigan and his musical contingent. The northern side of Main Street will be closed to vehicle traffic until the event concludes at 4 p.m.. The event seems easier than a picnic – no basket to pack, no ants on the blanket - and is probably preferable to another summertime Sunday meal option: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees, set the potatoes to boil….and sweat.

Senior Golf Series Returns in September

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Berkshire County Fall Senior Golf series returns in September with events on five consecutive Wednesdays starting Sept. 18.
 
It is the 22nd year of the series, which is a fund-raiser for junior golf in the county, and it is open to players aged 50 and up.
 
The series will feature two divisions for each event based on the combined ages of the playing partners.
 
Golfers play from the white tees (or equivalent) with participants 70 and over or who have a handicap of more than 9 able to play from the forward tees.
 
Gross and net prices will be available in each division.
 
The cost is $55 per event and includes a round of golf, food and prizes. Carts are available for an additional fee.
 
Golfers should call the pro shop at the course for that week's event no sooner than two weeks before the event to register.
