NORTH ADAMS - The North Adams Department of Public Safety is reminding all residents that Halloween is Wednesday, Oct. 31, and trick-or- treaters will be on the streets between 5:30 and 7 p.m.
The department encourages motor vehicle operators to be extra cautious and is passing on the following safety tips to help make this Halloween a safe and enjoyable one.
●Wear light-colored clothing that's short enough to prevent tripping and add reflective tape to the sides, front and back of costume.
●Make sure children can hear and see well through costumes of face masks so that they can hear and watch for traffic, or use cosmetics to create fun or scary faces.
●Stay on sidewalks or as near to the curb as possible.
●Observe safety rules when crossing or walking in streets.
●Kids, don't enter a stranger's house or car.
●Adults should accompany young children. Older kids should travel with a group of friends and plan their routes in advance with parents.
●Stay in well-lighted areas and carry a flashlight or a warning light for when they’re needed.
●Stay within the neighborhood and only visit homes you know.
●Only give and accept wrapped or packaged candy.
●Parents, examine all candy before allowing children to eat it.
●Keep costumed children away from pets. The pet may not recognize the child and become aggressive.
●Avoid hard plastic or wood props such as daggers or swords. Substitute with foam rubber which is soft and flexible.

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Four Vermont pitchers combined to strike out 11 and allow four hits Tuesday as the Mountaineers beat the North Adams SteepleCats, 11-0, in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
Evan Meier, Bobby Stang, Tonny Woodie and Chris Diaz each had a hit for the SteepleCats, who used five pitchers in the loss.
North Adams (0-2) comes home Tuesday to host the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Wolfe Field.
