Renowned Sociologist To Speak At MCLA

Jack Levin
Sociologist and homicide expert Jack Levin will speak at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Church Street Center. Levin will discuss worldwide homicide rates, the changes over time in murder rates and juvenile violence. The event is free and open to the public. According to Diane Balduzy, MCLA sociology professor, Levin is an internationally renowned criminologist. She expects that those in attendance will come away with an understanding of the relationship between homicide, power, control, politics, as well as the role statistical analyses plays. Levin has appeared on a number of television programs, including 48 Hours, Dateline NBC, Good Morning America, Oprah and Larry King Live. SteepleCats Shut Out on Road

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Four Vermont pitchers combined to strike out 11 and allow four hits Tuesday as the Mountaineers beat the North Adams SteepleCats, 11-0, in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
 
Evan Meier, Bobby Stang, Tonny Woodie and Chris Diaz each had a hit for the SteepleCats, who used five pitchers in the loss.
 
North Adams (0-2) comes home Tuesday to host the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Wolfe Field.
