NORTH ADAMS - North Adams Regional Hospital recognized 72 employees and one department at the hospital's Annual Employee Recognition Dinner on Nov. 1 at the Williams Inn.
The event included an awards ceremony for 64 current employees who have given service for five years and increments of five years, including Janice Tassone of North Adams, who has worked at NARH for 45 years. Awards were also presented to eight other employees and one department that received special recognition. Employees who received service awards represented a total of 1,205 years of service to the hospital.
NARH offered special recognition in nine categories that reflect the hospital’s mission and values. Linda Freeney, a registered nurse in the endoscopy department, received the Overall Excellence Award; Lisa Marie Pisano in medical imaging was named Peer of the Year; Larry Taft in finance was named New Employee of the Year, and Mary Bryant, a licensed practical nurse on the 3rd North floor, received the Compassionate Caregiver award.
The members of the rehabilitation services department at NARH were named Team of the Year. Teresa Roberts was recognized with the Extra Mile Award. Lisa Garvie in nutrition services received the Behind the Scenes Award and Joyce Mickanin, a registered nurse and director of emergency services, received the Manager of the Year Award.
Offering congratulations to the employees were Dr. Steven Pagnotta, chairman of the Northern Berkshire Healthcare board of trustees; Dr. Ronald B. "Skip" Durning Jr., director of NARH's hospitalist services; Dr. Paul Donovan, medical director of the emergency department, and Richard Palmisano, CEO of Northern Berkshire Healthcare.
"The key to our success is our people, and the values of our organization," said Palmisano. "We have an amazing group of people and I am frequently moved by what I hear from patients. It is truly my honor to represent this organization in our community."

Ten Years: Linda Bailot, Donald Boudreau, Carol Burns, Mary Foley, Lisa Janovsky, Melissa Lincoln, Kathryn Nicholas, Tracey Ritcher, and Michelle Skowronski.
Fifteen Years: John Candiloro, Jo Ann Myers, Kelly Dowling, and Susan Todd.
Twenty Years: Kim Allard, Patricia Biagini, John Blake, Victoria Flynn, Kathryn Henault, Debra LaCasse, Lisa Marko, Frank Rickus, Christine Rodriguez, Dr. Oscar Rodriguez and Stephanie Vidmosko.
Twenty-Five Years: Sharyn Armitage, Sharon Barrett, Deborah Cirullo, Phyllis Gaule, Diane George, Beverly Maynard, Joseph Pecor and Robbin Simonetti.
Thirty Years: Debra Corkins, Brenda Greenlaw, Michele Haskins, Donna Kondel, Sherry LaFleur, Florence Lefebvre, Mary Marlowe, Lou Ann Quinn, Nancy Ruebesam and Charlene Wise.
Thirty-Five Years: Jo-Ann Bernardi, Ellen Dupuis, Gloria Felix, Colleen Frank and Debra Wood.

Forty-Five Years: Janice Tassone.

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Four Vermont pitchers combined to strike out 11 and allow four hits Tuesday as the Mountaineers beat the North Adams SteepleCats, 11-0, in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
Evan Meier, Bobby Stang, Tonny Woodie and Chris Diaz each had a hit for the SteepleCats, who used five pitchers in the loss.
North Adams (0-2) comes home Tuesday to host the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Wolfe Field.
Cassidy Flynn scattered five hits in a complete-game effort in the circle as Lenox upset top-seeded Hoosac Valley, 3-2, in the quarter-finals of the Division 5 State Tournament. click for more
