Gallery 51 Hosts MySpace Friends

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts will bring the work of more than 40 "virtual friends" of MCLA Gallery 51's MySpace page to the downtown beginning Nov. 29 through Jan. 27, 2008. An opening reception for "The MySpace Show" will be held Thursday, Nov. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m., in MCLA Gallery 51. The event is free and open to the public. In addition to the physical show, the gallery will coordinate elements of a "virtual show" that will allow those who cannot come to the gallery in person to experience the exhibit online. As part of the virtual show, the gallery will post images of all of the work included in the exhibit to its MySpace page and encourage its friends to comment. The gallery also will take images and video during the opening of the show and post them to the gallery's MySpace profile. Once the physical show is up and running, the gallery will coordinate an online, collaborative art piece made by the artists who are MCLA Gallery 51's friends on MySpace. This art piece should be completed by the New Year and will be on display at MCLA Gallery 51 during January 2008. Gallery manager Sean Riley said participating artists will include those from throughout the world, including Brazil, France, Germany and Portugal. "What I find most interesting about this exhibit is that it is making virtual relationships real," Riley said. "The artists in this exhibition are no longer just our virtual friends," they have become participants and real-life friends of the gallery." MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Four Vermont pitchers combined to strike out 11 and allow four hits Tuesday as the Mountaineers beat the North Adams SteepleCats, 11-0, in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
 
Evan Meier, Bobby Stang, Tonny Woodie and Chris Diaz each had a hit for the SteepleCats, who used five pitchers in the loss.
 
North Adams (0-2) comes home Tuesday to host the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Wolfe Field.
