Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts’ Berkshire Cultural Resource Center (BCRC) and Northern Berkshire Creative Arts (NBCA) will continue their series of talks and seminars for working artists on Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m., with “Legal Issues for Artists.â€
Attorney Paul Rapp of Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts will speak on how legal issues affect artistic and creative endeavors at the BCRC at MCLA Gallery 51, at 51 Main St., as part of the “Tricks of the Trade: Talks for Artists†series.
The event is free and open to the public with pre-registration. The Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts are advocates on behalf of the arts community in different ways, ranging from participation in litigation, making public statements about matters of interest to the arts community and making recommendations about pending legislation.
Rapp is an intellectual property lawyer who lives and works in Housatonic. Rapp represents a wide variety of artists and businesses involved in the creative sphere in matters including copyrights, trademarks and contract matters. He teaches art and entertainment law at Albany Law School and copyright law at Western New England College School of Law, writes about music, art, and the law for The Artful Mind, Metroland, and Berkshire Living magazines and appears regularly on WAMC's VoxPop program as a copyright expert.
The series will continue with “Become a Creative Teaching Artist†with David Marshall, education programs manager at the Massachusetts Cultural Council, at NBCA on Jan. 24, 2008; “The Business of Art†on Feb. 7, 2008, at MCLA Gallery 51; “The Creative Process†with John MacDonald on March 6, 2008, at NBCA; “Sol LeWitt Comes to North Adams†on April 3, 2008, at MCLA Gallery 51; and “What do Galleries Want?†with area gallery owners on May 1, 2008, at MCLA Gallery 51.
The artist talks generally will be held the first Thursday of every month, 6-8 p.m., at either NBCA – at 115 State Street, Bldg. 1, Heritage State Park, or at the BCRC – in MCLA Gallery 51, 51 Main St.

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Four Vermont pitchers combined to strike out 11 and allow four hits Tuesday as the Mountaineers beat the North Adams SteepleCats, 11-0, in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
Evan Meier, Bobby Stang, Tonny Woodie and Chris Diaz each had a hit for the SteepleCats, who used five pitchers in the loss.
North Adams (0-2) comes home Tuesday to host the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Wolfe Field.
