Lee's Borsotti Leads The Way As MCLA Women's Basketball Wins Home Opener Defeating Southern Vermont College 64-38
The MCLA Women's Basketball team increased their record to 3-2 capturing a home opening 64-38 win over Southern Vermont College. Lee High School standout, Amanda Borsotti lead the way with 16 points and five rebounds. Sophomore forward, Laura Silverman (Clifton Park, NY) followed with 15 points and seven rebounds. The Trailblazers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Mountaineers lead the game with 51 rebounds over MCLA's 47, but were plagued by 31 turnovers on the night resulting in 14 seals for MCLA, four from Taylor Kenyon (North Bennington, VT) and three from Jade Prickett (Westhampton, MA). Silverman's 11 points and Ali Leveille's (Southampton, MA) eight points helped give the Trailblazers a 35-23 lead at the break. SVC wasn't all quite as Markeisha Mullen (Baltimore, MD) collected a double-double in the first half pulling down 10 boards and scoring 10 points. Depth on the MCLA bench would also be a bonus as the Trailblazers ran hard all night forcing SVC into a tough night with just one reserve. Silverman and Leveille were quite in the second half, but Borsotti exploded for 16 points in just seven minutes on the floor. Her shooting was perfect as she hit all seven shots she took including one from behind the arch. Chelsea Burke (Southampton, MA) dished out six assists on the night, five in the second half leading to ten of Borsotti's points. SVC's Mullen finished the game with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Team mates Julia Fagan (New Britain, CT) and Celeste Warner (Bronx, NY) added to the Mountaineers rebounding efforts with 15 and 10 respectively. NOTES: Jess Tietgens (Stamford, VT) scored eight points on the night and continues to lead the Trailblazers with 11.8 points per game. Silverman is a close second with 11.2 points per game. Silverman also continues to dominate the boards leading the team with 7.6 rebounds per game. On Friday, SVC heads off to the Medger Evers College Tournament for the weekend. MCLA will have the weekend off, but will be back in action at home next Tuesday, December 4th for a 7:00 game verse Albany College of Pharmacy.
