The Vienna Piano Trio will perform at the Clark

WILLIAMSTOWN - Acclaimed for presenting classical music with a modern appeal, the Vienna Piano Trio will perform at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute on Sunday, March 16 at 3 pm. Tickets are $15 ($12 Clark members) and can be purchased at the museum shop during business hours, online at www.clarkart.edu, or by calling 413-458-0524.

Hailed by The Washington Post as one of the "world's leading ensembles of piano, violin, and cello," the Vienna Piano Trio has had debut concerts in Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and London's Wigmore Hall, as well as at Washington's Kennedy Center, New York City's Lincoln Center, Weil Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and at the Frick Collection.

The trio has won numerous prizes at international competitions. Concerts have been repeatedly broadcast on NPR stations and they have appeared live on WGBH Boston. The group's recordings have won many awards, including the British magazine Classic CD's "Top of the Class" award in 1999 and the London Times's "Classical Album of the Year" in 2000. In August 2003 and February 2004, BBC Music Magazine declared the group's Volumes I and II of Schubert works to be Benchmark Recordings.

At the Clark, the Vienna Piano Trio will perform the Haydn Piano Trio in E-flat major Hob.XV/29, Smetana's Piano Trio in G minor Opus 15, and Brahms's Piano Trio in B major Opus 8.

The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August). Admission is free November through May. Admission June 1 through October 31 is $12.50 for adults, free for children 18 and younger, members, and students with valid ID.

Former Harry's Supermarket Under Construction for Restaurant

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Construction is underway to transform the former Harry's Supermarket into a restaurant

Late last month, the Conservation Commission greenlit some tree pruning on the property. New windows and a new door can be seen in the front of the building. 

"It's a substantial renovation that's currently underway here," Brent White of White Engineering said, speaking on behalf of the applicant and owner, Huajie Zhu. 

A fire gutted the longtime Wahconah Street supermarket in 2023, and the following year, Zhu purchased the property for $460,000 two years ago to build a restaurant with hibachi in the existing footprint of the more than 100-year-old building. 

White explained that the project has been ongoing for over a year, and the Community Development Board granted the property a waiver to reduce the minimum required number of parking spaces so that additional spaces aren't needed.  

He noted that, looking at the site plan, there is very little room to do so. A mirror will be installed near the sharp turn on Bel Air Avenue to alleviate traffic concerns. 

Pruning will be done on trees in the southeast corner of the existing paved parking lot, as a number of branches are hanging over. The new owners also intend to patch, sealcoat, and re-stripe the parking lot. 

A fire tore through the building less than an hour after the supermarket closed for the day three years ago. An automatic sprinkler system is required for the new use.
