Click Here: Spring Comes Earlier to Walden Pond
![]() |
| Cherry blossoms are opening earlier than ever. |
At least that's what scientists have found, based on descriptions in Henry David Thoreau's diary among other evidence.
Old photos and records are pointing to warmer springs in the Northeast, researchers say.
And it's not just the Northeast. The famed cherry trees in Washington, D.C., are poised to bloom this coming week rather than in April. And pollen is already heavy in the air in some parts of the country.
<L2>Scientists say it's global warming that's rushing plants to bud weeks before normal.
While there are plenty of naysayers out there, even the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says the Earth is likely to be up to 7 degrees warmer than 1990 levels by the end of this century.
We're glad spring is here, but we wonder if some day there'll be beach weather in February.
