MCLA Bands, Vocalists Present Free Concerts

NORTH ADAMS – Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts  will present two concerts this weekend, on Friday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, April 26, at 3 p.m.

Both concerts are free and open to the public.

On Friday, the MCLA jazz and community concert bands will present a joint performance in Venable Theater.The jazz band is under the direction of Jamie Choquette and the concert band is led by Jack Brown. It will include a wide range of music, from jazz standards to the music of Ravel, Beethoven and themes from "Star Wars."

The choir and women's chorus will perform in Church Street Center on Saturday. The chorus will perform a range of popular standards from the 1960s and '70s, while the choir will sing American choral masterpieces from the 20th century. Featured works will include those by faculty member and composer David Denhard.

The choirs are directed by Jack Brown and accompanied by Scott Bailey. Also, on Saturday, May 3, the choir and the Bard College at Simon's Rock chorus will perform together for an American choral music concert in Pittsfield at 7:30 p.m. at First Church of Christ on Park Square.

SteepleCats Shut Out on Road

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Four Vermont pitchers combined to strike out 11 and allow four hits Tuesday as the Mountaineers beat the North Adams SteepleCats, 11-0, in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
 
Evan Meier, Bobby Stang, Tonny Woodie and Chris Diaz each had a hit for the SteepleCats, who used five pitchers in the loss.
 
North Adams (0-2) comes home Tuesday to host the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Wolfe Field.
