Massachusetts College Of Liberal Arts To Hold 109th Commencement Ceremony

NORTH ADAMS - Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) will celebrate its 109th Commencement exercises on Saturday, May 17, beginning at 11 a.m., in the Amsler Campus Center Gymnasium. This year, 370 students, including 38 master’s candidates, will receive degrees. In addition, 27 students will receive a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS).

U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry, D-Massachusetts, will deliver the keynote address to the class of 2008. Kerry will receive a Doctor of Laws. Also receiving honorary degrees this year will be retired engineer and MCLA benefactor Arlindo Jorge, who will be presented with a Doctor of Humanities; Lola Jaffe, president of the board of directors for the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center Board, who will receive a Doctor of Fine Arts; and College alumnus and local educator Donald Pecor ’66, who will be honored with a Doctor of Pedagogy.

SteepleCats Shut Out on Road

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Four Vermont pitchers combined to strike out 11 and allow four hits Tuesday as the Mountaineers beat the North Adams SteepleCats, 11-0, in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
 
Evan Meier, Bobby Stang, Tonny Woodie and Chris Diaz each had a hit for the SteepleCats, who used five pitchers in the loss.
 
North Adams (0-2) comes home Tuesday to host the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Wolfe Field.
