Update on Nov. 1: An autopsy conducted Saturday on the 3-week-old infant who died Friday morning found no signs of trauma.

Associate Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Richard Sexton conducted the autopsy at the office of the medical examiner in Holyoke. The cause of death has not been determined pending further testing.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Investigators are looking into the death of a 3-week-old infant that occurred Friday morning.

According to District Attorney David F. Capeless, the death is automatically considered "suspicious" because of the child's age and so an investigation is warranted. He added that the family is cooperating with investigators.

The North Adams Police Department received a 911 call at 7:59 a.m. of an infant not breathing. Police officers and North Adams Ambulance personnel responded to a residence in the Greylock Valley housing project.

The infant was rushed to North Adams Regional Hospital and emergency personnel administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation en route. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death is scheduled for Saturday morning at the office of the chief medical examiner in Holyoke.

The investigation is being conducted by state police detectives assigned to the district attorney's office, state police Crime Scene Services, state police Crime Laboratory and the North Adams Police Department.
