Shakespeare & Company’s signature actor training program is in full swing
LENOX, Mass. – Shakespeare & Company’s signature actor training program is in full swing, with professionals from around the world delving into Shakespeare’s powerful and timeless texts through an immersion in the distinctive training methodology the Company has built up over its 31 years. For information on next year’s workshop and other Training programs throughout the year, please contact Scott Renzoni, Training Programs Associate, at (413) 637-1199 ext. 114 or visit the Shakespeare & Company website at www.shakespeare.orgThis Intensive brings 40 to 50 actors together with more than a dozen faculty members who will spend over ten hours a day, six days a week digging into the heart and meaning of Shakespeare’s works. Led by Director of Training Dennis Krausnick and Associate Director of Training Dave Demke, the Intensive faculty is composed of women and men who act, direct, and teach not only at Shakespeare & Company, but many other cultural and academic institutions in the United States, Great Britain, Australia and Canada.
For the first time, participants in this year’s Month-Long Intensive have access to the advanced facilities of the new Production and Performing Arts Center, including three state-of-the-art rehearsal studios and the new Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre.
The Intensive weaves together a cohesive immersion of text analysis, movement, Elizabethan dance, Alexander Technique, Linklater Voice Work, stage combat, exploration of the actor/audience relationship, sonnet and scene work and in-depth discussions about the function of theatre and the role of the actor in today’s world. Actors train not only their voices and their bodies with a regimen of demanding classes; they delve deeply into their own imaginations, intellects, and emotional lives to bring the whole of the actor’s being into the moment of theatre.
The methods taught in the Intensive are unique to Shakespeare & Company and provide the groundwork and artistic vocabulary behind all of its performances. For three decades the Company has developed and refined the Intensive, which is the heart of its methodology and extensive training programs.
Faculty for the Month-Long Intensive includes Artistic Director Tina Packer, Master Teachers Dennis Krausnick, Kevin Coleman, Dave Demke, Ariel Bock, Associate Artistic Director Michael Hammond, Susan Dibble, Tod Randolph, Clare Reidy, Edgar Landa, Tori Rhoades and Michael F. Toomey.
