Garden Club Scholarship Applications Being Accepted
The Berkshire District Garden Clubs - Academy Garden Club of Lenox, Egremont Garden Club, Gt. Barrington Garden Club, North Adams Garden Club, and Williamstown Garden Club - want students from Berkshire County to apply for Garden Club Federation of MA, Inc. (GCFM) Scholarships. Over the past three years three students from Berkshire county have been awarded scholarships. In 2008, the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, Inc. awarded eleven $1,000.00 scholarships to students across the state.The GCFM is accepting scholarship applications from qualified High School Seniors, College Students and Graduate Students. Deadline for submitting scholarship applications is March 1, 2009. The applicant must be a resident of Massachusetts, have a minimum “B” average (3.0 on a 4.0 scale), good character, and financial need.
Scholarships are available for students majoring in Horticulture, Floriculture, Landscape Design, Conservation, Forestry, Agronomy, City Planning, Environmental Studies, Land Management, Botany, Biology, and allied subjects. Three of the scholarships require that the student attend the University of Massachusetts. The application and financial aid forms can be obtained at www.gcfm.org. Local GCFM Clubs also offer scholarship. The North Adams Garden Club offers two $300 scholarships to graduating senior who are going on to college. The National Garden Clubs awards yearly 35 scholarship of $4000 each available to Juniors, Seniors and Graduate students. Applicants must have at least a 3.25 GPA (on a 4.0-point scale) in order to apply. Applications are available at www.gardenclub.org and are due March 1, 2009.
