Free April Vacation Activities for Children

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Looking for something fun and free for the kids to do over the April school vacation? Check out the Wacky Wind and Steamy Sun activities at the North Adams Public Library. These workshops will be offered in conjunction with the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition and Take Charge: The North Adams Campaign to Save Energy.

Wacky Wind, appropriate for children from kindergarten through second grade, will feature the power of wind. Each participant will have the opportunity to make a windmill. It is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2009 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.

Steamy Sun, appropriate for children from grades 3 through 5, will feature the sun. Each child will have the opportunity to build a solar oven. This program will be held Friday, April 24, 2009 from 2:00 – 3:30 PM.

Space is limited so please stop by the Youth services Department or call the library (413-662-3133) to reserve your spot.

In addition there will be a seed planting activity conducted by REACH on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 10:30 AM. No need to register for this one. Just come and help get some flowers started to add to the planter on the front lawn of the library once the danger of frost is past (late May).

SteepleCats Shut Out on Road

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Four Vermont pitchers combined to strike out 11 and allow four hits Tuesday as the Mountaineers beat the North Adams SteepleCats, 11-0, in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
 
Evan Meier, Bobby Stang, Tonny Woodie and Chris Diaz each had a hit for the SteepleCats, who used five pitchers in the loss.
 
North Adams (0-2) comes home Tuesday to host the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Wolfe Field.
