ADAMS, Mass. - Topia Arts Center, 27 Park Street (Route 8) has scheduled the first annual Film Topia, a free film series to premiere this June 21st on Topia's brand new Hi Def (Definition) movie projector and 24 ft. screen. The projection system was made possible by the generosity of the South Adams Savings Bank.

The first film to be shown at Topia this summer will be determined by Topia's "Pick The Flick" contest to be held in Adams. The contest will give Adams residents the opportunity to tell Topia what film they'd like to see first and why. The 'winning' movie will be the first to launch the ongoing summer series.

Look for ballot boxes in Adams’ stores and banks next week for your chance to "Pick The Flick". You can also vote online by going to www.topiaarts.org.

The FilmTopia summer series will kick off with "Berkshire Made Movies", a collection of films made in the Berkshires or by Berkshire residents, and will be highlighted by discussions with select local filmmakers. Legendary effects guru Doug Trumbull is slated to present 2001 Space Odyssey to the Berkshires as he did for the Academy in Hollywood last year. Jeff Kleiser from Synthespians in North Adams will be on hand to discuss his company's cutting edge work on X-Men, among many other projects. Other Berkshire Made films on the schedule include, The Matrix, The Blade Runner, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, a double feature of the Karen Allen films Raiders of the Lost Arc and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls. For a complete list of films check the schedule on www.topiaarts.org.

This year's FilmTopia offers audiences the unique movie-going experience of a cutting edge Hi Def projection system and newly installed seats juxtaposed with the completely raw state of the theatre space. As an emerging green Creative Arts Center, Topia is currently in process of sustainable renovations.

Moderator Carol Francesconi, left, and Anne Marie Furey were presented flowers in memory of the Rev. William Furey, their brother and husband, respectively. The town report was dedicated to him.
CHESHIRE, Mass. — Town meeting on Monday approved all 35 articles on the annual meeting warrant, including a total spending for fiscal 2027 of more than $8.5 million.

Some 77 of the town's more than 2,500 registered voters filled the Cheshire Community House meeting room, debating on a number of articles during the meeting that lasted nearly three hours

The town dedicated its annual report to the Rev. William David Furey, longtime pastor of First Baptist Church and more recently Berkshire Union Chapel in Lanesborough. Furey died last year at age 77.

His wife, Anne Marie Furey, and his sister, Town Moderator Carol Francesconi, were presented with a bouquet of flowers in tribute to him.

He was an exemplary member of the community who left a lasting impression in each and every life that he touched, said Town Clerk Whitney Flynn.

Voters approved several warrant articles that make up an operating budget of $3,840,314 for fiscal 2027. Of this amount, $1,642,481 is allocated for the general government budget, which was approved after clarification of a few questions.

One item was the administrative assistant's salary. Prior to the annual meeting, the town eliminated the executive assistant salary of $54,309 in favor of a part-time administrative assistant salary of $27,155, to reduce costs considering the financial constraint the town is in.
