North Adams Sends Three To Take On Team USA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The North Adams SteepleCats are proud to announce that first baseman Paul Hoilman, starting pitcher Brach Davis and shortstop Brandon Macias have all been selected to play for the Team NECBL roster that will take on Team USA July 5 in Manchester, N.H. First pitch is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium, home of the Manchester Fisher Cats.

Hoilman, a sophomore out of East Tennessee State University, has been one of the biggest offensive threats in the league this season. He’s currently hitting .295 with a league-leading five home runs. His 16 runs batted in are second-most in the league and he leads the league in total bases with 39 and walks with 20.

Davis, a junior out of the University of Memphis, has been a dominant starter for the SteepleCats all season. Through five starts he holds a 2-1 record with a 0.86 ERA. He’s struck out a league-leading 36 batters in 31.1 innings pitched, while holding opposing batters to a .185 average.

Macias, a sophomore out of South Mountain Community College, has been a steady presence at shortstop this season for the SteepleCats. Macias plays solid defense, can bunt to sacrifice or for a base hit, can steal bases and score runs. He’s currently hitting .238 and is third in the league in runs scored with 17 and stolen bases with 10. He leads the league with four sacrifice bunts.

The USA Baseball National Team consists of the top collegiate baseball players in the country. The team competes each summer in a schedule of exhibition games across the globe against the best baseball players in the world. On July 5 they will take on Team NECBL that was handpicked by league officials with the intent of building a team from top to bottom that can defeat Team USA.  The traditional NECBL All-Stars will be selected in the coming weeks and will participate in the All-Star festivities on July 18 in Holyoke, MA.

New North Adams Restaurant Approved for Liquor License

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A new restaurant on Main Street, a provisions shop and a convenience store all got the nod from the License Commission on Tuesday.
 
Siblings Colleen and Sean Taylor are expanding their cuisine empire yet again with the establishment of Main & Mill in the old TD Bank. They were before the commission to apply for an all-alcohol license. 
 
The building is owned by Ginko on Main Street LLC, which has granted 20 years exclusive possession of the property to Latent Builds as the developer. Jack and Suzy Wadsworth, behind Ginko, are development partners with Salvatore Perry and Karla Rothstein of Latent.
 
The bank closed in early 2021 and purchased by Ginko late that year. Plans for the property unveiled three years ago envisioned a restaurant, retail, a park and rooftop bar. 
 
The building's hosted some pop-up eateries and is currently under construction for the new restaurant. 
 
Colleen Taylor said the restaurant will be open seven days a week serving lunch and dinner, and be open early for coffee. 
 
"It's not going to be a very big restaurant. It's about the same size as Trail House, except for Trail House has a bigger patio, so about the same seating," she said.
