NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The MCLA Trailblazers kept their winning streak going to start the season. The Trailblazers improved to 3-0 on the season with a sweep of the Spartans of Castleton State.

MCLA came out strong in the opening game jumping out to a 9-3 lead and coasting to a 25-15 victory. Game two the Trailblazers came out flat and the Spartans jumped out 16-6 behind the play of Ashley Kepaa (No. Attleboro, MA) and Laura Thomas (Pittstown, NY).  Kepaa had 3 kills and several digs in the run and Thomas added some key assists. The Trailblazers chipped away and the only question was whether the game would run out before the comeback was complete. The Trailblazers cut the lead to 23-21 when Amanda Borsotti came up with an ace and served her team to four straight points and the victory.

MCLA closed out the sweep with a 25-19 coasting in the final game.  Hayley Gundersen (Gansevoort, NY) played a solid all-around game for MCLA including several including four service aces. Amanda Lane (Swansea, MA) added 17 digs on defense and freshman Collene Black (Plympton, MA) registered her first collegiate assist in the match.

Spartans freshman and Wahconah graduate Jeniffer Connor (Pittsfield, MA) had two kills in the loss.

MCLA will host a tri-match with Becker College and Mt. Holyoke Saturday in Venable Gym at 11:00am.
