NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Registered Democrats for all five voting wards in North Adams will be holding a caucus in the North Adams Housing Authority Community Room at 150 Ashland St. on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. to elect delegates and alternates to the 2010 Massachusetts Democratic Convention.

City Wards One, Two, Four and Five will each elect one male and one female delegate. Ward Three will elect either one male or one female delegate. The same number of alternates to the convention will also be elected.

The Democratic State Convention will be held on Friday, June 4, and Saturday, June 5, at the DCU Center in Worcester. At that time, Democrats from across the state will gather to endorse statewide candidates. This convention will endorse candidates for the office of governor, lieutenant governor, state auditor and state treasurer. The consideration of state charter amendments is also on the agenda. The expectations are that this will be a lively and busy convention, say committee members.

The caucus is open to all Democrats registered in the city. Each ward will caucus individually and all ballots will be written and secret. Those not elected as delegate or alternate but who meet the qualifications may apply to be add-on delegates in the following categories: youth, minority and disabled. Information on obtaining these designations will be available the day of the caucus.

Discrimination on the basis of race, sex, age, color, creed, national origin, disability, religion, ethnic identity, sexual orientation or economic status in the conduct of the caucus is strictly prohibited.

Immediately following the close of the caucus, the North Adams Democratic City Committee will hold a meeting. Along with local party strategy for 2010, the agenda will include the election of officers and ward chairs. For additional caucus or committee information, contact Gailanne Cariddi, committee secretary, at 413-652-7254.
