Lee Girls Win in OT to Claim 18th WMass Title; Hoosac Loses to Sabis

Lee pulled out a 60-56 win in overtime Saturday morning to take the Western Mass. Division III title over Smith Academy at the Curry Hicks Cage. This is Lee's 18th title in 22 years.

Hoosac Valley

The Hurricanes tried mightily but couldn't take down Sabis, losing their match at the Cage 68-57. Second-seeded Hoosac was down by 20 at one point but rallied to within three points with 1:24 left in third, 41-38. But they couldn't keep the pressure on in the fourth, and the Bulldogs, who trounced them by 19 points earlier in the year, pulled too far ahead to catch.




Monument Mountain
Monument Mountain girls, however, couldn't trap the Panthers for the Division II title. Palmer nabbed its second win in three years, 55-32. Palmer's perfect third period punished Spartans, putting them down 39-21 heading into final quarter. T's were flying as taht Spartans became unglued.


St. Joseph's
The St. Joe boys went down in defeat as well, as New Leadership Wildcats scratched the Crusaders 83-56. A major loss occurred 16 seconds into the half as the Crusaders' Danny Joslyn was taken out of building by ambulance staff with knee injury.

SteepleCats Shut Out on Road

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Four Vermont pitchers combined to strike out 11 and allow four hits Tuesday as the Mountaineers beat the North Adams SteepleCats, 11-0, in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
 
Evan Meier, Bobby Stang, Tonny Woodie and Chris Diaz each had a hit for the SteepleCats, who used five pitchers in the loss.
 
North Adams (0-2) comes home Tuesday to host the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Wolfe Field.
