The committee voted last week to offer Gordon the job and after reaching an agreement, she was appointed on Monday.
CHESHIRE, Mass. — Kristen Gordon was appointed Monday night as the permanent replacement for Superintendent Alfred Skrocki.

The Adams-Cheshire Regional School Committee initially chose the C.T. Plunkett Elementary School principal as the interim replacement while they performed a national search.

However, after watching her shadow Skrocki for the last few months, the committee decided to suspend the national search and hire Gordon.

"I for one have certainly been very pleased with what I've seen," Chairman Paul Butler said.

The committee did an internal search for a new superintendent and Gordon was one of two to apply. The full search was expected to go through the winter for a January or July start date. Skrocki will end his 14 years in the position in October and Gordon was expected to fill the gap and apply again.

The school is also nearing the hiring of a new Plunkett principal and recently hired a new principal, Vince Regan,  for Hoosac Valley High School. Gordon came in with all the right qualifications and skills to take over, the committee said.

"We've come to the right decision," committee member Edmund St. John IV said. "We've got a great internal candidate."

Butler said the school has gone in the right direction under Skrocki and Gordon will be able to step right into continuing the momentum.

The committee also honored former member John Duval, who stepped down after 17 years to run for selectman.
Gordon was joined by dozens of friends and family members for the appointment — all of whom lined up to give her hugs and congratulations.

"It's just an honor and such an exciting night," Gordon said.

Also on Monday, the committee recognized John Duval's 17 years on the committee.

Duval resigned from the committee in March to run for a seat on the Board of Selectmen, which he won. The committee presented him with a plaque recognizing his work.

Butler said that Duval had taught him a lot and his time was important to the School Committee. Skrocki added that a plaque "seems minimal" because of his effort.

Duval, who won his first School Committee seat by a write-in campaign, said the committee has a major role.

The School Committee meets more than the Board of Selectmen but that effort goes under the radar, he said.

Cheshire Town Meeting Oks Budgets, Debates Potential Prop 2 1/2 Override

Moderator Carol Francesconi, left, and Anne Marie Furey were presented flowers in memory of the Rev. William Furey, their brother and husband, respectively. The town report was dedicated to him.
CHESHIRE, Mass. — Town meeting on Monday approved all 35 articles on the annual meeting warrant, including a total spending for fiscal 2027 of more than $8.5 million.

Some 77 of the town's more than 2,500 registered voters filled the Cheshire Community House meeting room, debating on a number of articles during the meeting that lasted nearly three hours

The town dedicated its annual report to the Rev. William David Furey, longtime pastor of First Baptist Church and more recently Berkshire Union Chapel in Lanesborough. Furey died last year at age 77.

His wife, Anne Marie Furey, and his sister, Town Moderator Carol Francesconi, were presented with a bouquet of flowers in tribute to him.

He was an exemplary member of the community who left a lasting impression in each and every life that he touched, said Town Clerk Whitney Flynn.

Voters approved several warrant articles that make up an operating budget of $3,840,314 for fiscal 2027. Of this amount, $1,642,481 is allocated for the general government budget, which was approved after clarification of a few questions.

One item was the administrative assistant's salary. Prior to the annual meeting, the town eliminated the executive assistant salary of $54,309 in favor of a part-time administrative assistant salary of $27,155, to reduce costs considering the financial constraint the town is in.
