NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Trailblazers won their second straight non-conference game as they defeated the Mount Holyoke Lyons, 2-0, at Shewcraft Field. MCLA improves to 7-9 overall, while the Lyons drop to 2-12-2.

In the opening period, MCLA struck in the 6th minute when Janelle Stannard headed home a corner kick off the foot of Lindsay Borbolla. The goal gave MCLA a 1-0 lead and was her first tally of the season. The visiting Lyons had plenty of chances to grab the equalizer, yet couldn't push the ball past MCLA netminder Danielle Heinsohn.

Mount Holyoke's Ali Rossi got behind the defense in the 30th minute and was alone against Heinsohn, but her shot sailed over the crossbar preserving the 1-0 advantage. The Trailblazers scored again in the 39th minute when Jennifer Ferrari got past the defense and pressured Lyons' keeper Mackenzie Randall. She easily passed off to Keisha Devoe who tapped the pass home for a 2-0 lead. It was her second tally of the season. MCLA held lead into halftime.

The Lyons had a great opportunity to get back into the game just four minutes into the second half, but an offsides call nullified a goal. Minutes later, Borbolla hit the crossbar as MCLA looked to extend the lead.

Heinsohn recorded her sixth shutout of the season stopping eight shots on the afternoon. Randall absorbed the loss while recording six saves.

Mount Holyoke outshot the Trailblazers 20-17 on the afternoon.

MCLA will celebrate senior day on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Worcester State.

New North Adams Restaurant Approved for Liquor License

By Tammy DanielsiBerkshires Staff
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A new restaurant on Main Street, a provisions shop and a convenience store all got the nod from the License Commission on Tuesday.

Siblings Colleen and Sean Taylor are expanding their cuisine empire yet again with the establishment of Main & Mill in the old TD Bank. They were before the commission to apply for an all-alcohol license.

The building is owned by Ginko on Main Street LLC, which has granted 20 years exclusive possession of the property to Latent Builds as the developer. Jack and Suzy Wadsworth, behind Ginko, are development partners with Salvatore Perry and Karla Rothstein of Latent.

The bank closed in early 2021 and purchased by Ginko late that year. Plans for the property unveiled three years ago envisioned a restaurant, retail, a park and rooftop bar.

The building's hosted some pop-up eateries and is currently under construction for the new restaurant.

Colleen Taylor said the restaurant will be open seven days a week serving lunch and dinner, and be open early for coffee.

"It's not going to be a very big restaurant. It's about the same size as Trail House, except for Trail House has a bigger patio, so about the same seating," she said.
