MCLA Championship Run Ended by Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — The Bridgewater State University Bears swept the Trailblazers to win the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference championship and an automatic bid in the NCAA tournament.

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts led early in the second game after Kendra Hobbs scored. MCLA starter Rachel Quackenbush held the lead until the fourth when a home run tied the score. Bridgewater took the lead in the fifth after an RBI double.
 
Bridgewater starter Amber White held down the Trailblazers for the win. MCLA attempted a six inning rally but failed to score.
 
White pitched seven innings, allowing six hits and no earned runs. Quackenbush went six innings, giving up nine hits while striking out eight.
 
In the first game, White won the duel again, throwing a two-hit shutout in the complete game effort. Meanwhile, Quackenbush took another tough-luck loss, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out seven.
 
MCLA ends their season at 21-22 overall, while the Bears improve to 26-15.

SteepleCats Shut Out on Road

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Four Vermont pitchers combined to strike out 11 and allow four hits Tuesday as the Mountaineers beat the North Adams SteepleCats, 11-0, in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
 
Evan Meier, Bobby Stang, Tonny Woodie and Chris Diaz each had a hit for the SteepleCats, who used five pitchers in the loss.
 
North Adams (0-2) comes home Tuesday to host the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Wolfe Field.
