McCann Announces Valedictorian, Salutatorian

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — McCann Technical School has named Aimee Louise Dowling and Daniel Joseph Gamari as the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the class of 2018, according to Principal Justin Kratz. 
 
Dowling, daughter of Michael and Jennifer Dowling, is a senior in the Business Technology Program. She is the recipient of
the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendent's Award for Academic Excellence and ranks first in her class with a 4.29 grade-point average. Her course of study included four Project Lead the Way courses that are above and beyond the required course load, as well AP Calculus and AP Physics and she is a member of the National Honor Society. 
 
She is the treasurer of the school's Business Professionals of America chapter and won a gold medal in the integrated office competition at the BPA national competition in 2017. She also won gold at the SkillsUSA state competition last year in technical computer applications. Dowling is a three-sport varsity athlete competing in soccer, basketball and softball as well as a member of the Dancecapade School of Dance competition team. She maintains a part-time job as a personal care attendant.
 
Dowling will be majoring in biomedical engineering at either Seton Hall in New Jersey or Western New England University.
 
Gamari, son of James and Laurie Gamari, is a senior in the Information Technology Program. He is a recipient of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship, has received a multitude of class and shop undergraduate awards as well as the bronze medal for Information Technology Services at the SkillsUSA State competition. He ranks second in his class with a 4.27 GPA, has maintained high honors all four years, has earned two Core Skills Certifications for Information Technology and is currently scheduled for his third certification. He is a member of the National Honor Society, and Police Athletic League high school basketball.
 
Gamari will be attending Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in the fall, majoring in computer science with a concentration in
information technology.
 
Both students will graduate from McCann Technical School with high honors on Wednesday, June 6, in the Amsler Campus Center gymnasium at MCLA.

Spectrum Cable Hearing Set in North Adams

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A public hearing for the renewal of the cable television contract for four North Berkshire communities will be held on Wednesday, April 24, at 6 p.m. at City Hall. 
 
The 10-year contract with Spectrum/Charter Communications will cover the city of North Adams and the towns of Adams, Cheshire and Clarksburg. 
 
The hearing in Council Chambers is open to residents of all four communities. In-person attendance is encouraged but a remote option is available here via Zoom
 
Topics covered during the hearing will include the future of cable-related community needs and interests (community television) and performance of the operator under the cable license. It does not include internet or other provided services. 
 
The hearing is required under state law as part of the contract renewal process. Any documents or reports relating to the contract can be obtained through the governmental offices of each community.
