BENNINGTON, Vt. — Nicholas T. Pinchuk, chairman and chief executive officer of Snap-on Incorporated, has been named to the Board of Trustees at Southern Vermont College. The appointment was confirmed at the college's September board meeting.

"It is a genuine honor for SVC and a stellar endorsement of our mission to have Nick join our board," said Dr. David Evans, SVC president. "He is an outstanding business leader, deeply thoughtful about education and workforce issues, and a highly respected voice on many critical matters. In addition, Snap-on Incorporated has a long history of supporting young entrepreneurs, helping them get started through thoughtful financial arrangements and skill development, which are absolutely in-line with our strategy at SVC. Snap-on under Nick's leadership has an impeccable reputation for excellence and quality with which it is marvelous to be associated."

Pinchuk said he was "deeply honored" to join the board.

"Education is the essence of our future and this unique institution has a long-standing reputation for guiding and inspiring students to learn, lead and serve," he said. "As a steward of one of the larger commercial enterprises in the country, I recognize the critical importance of collaboration between education and industry in moving America forward.

"Southern Vermont College is engaged in a noble endeavor affecting not only its students and community, but contributing to the ongoing prosperity of our nation. I'm excited to serve on the board in support of that endeavor."

Pinchuk joined Snap-on Incorporated in 2002 as senior vice president and president of Snap-on's Worldwide Commercial and Industrial Group. In April 2007, he became president and chief operating officer, as well as a member of the board of directors. In December 2007, he was elected chief executive officer and was named chairman of the company in April 2009.

Before Snap-on, Pinchuk was president of global refrigeration operations, a multi-billion dollar business unit of Carrier Corporation, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation. Prior to that, he served in executive, operational, planning and financial capacities within Carrier and United Technologies, including president of Asia-Pacific air conditioning operations, global vice president of strategic planning, and chief financial officer of Carrier International Corporation. Before joining United Technologies, he was with the Ford Motor Company, where he held various financial and engineering positions.

As an outspoken leader on workforce development and careers, Pinchuk was named National Business Leader of the Year in 2011 for his role in the formation of our nation's technical education agenda. SkillsUSA named him Champion of the Year in 2012, recognizing his extensive support for the growth of a skilled American workforce. He was inducted into the "IndustryWeek" Manufacturing Hall of Fame in 2014. In 2015, he was recognized for his far-reaching professional contributions by the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association.

Pinchuk served in Vietnam as an officer in the United States Army. At JP Morgan Chase & Company's ongoing series of conversations, he spoke on how his military service influences the way he runs his business.

Pinchuk received a master in business administration from Harvard Business School and master and bachelor of science degrees in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In May, he spoke to the Class of 2018 after being awarded an honorary doctorate of humane letters at SVC's commencement ceremony.

He currently serves on the board of directors of Columbus McKinnon Corporation and the National Association of Manufacturers. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Manufacturer's Alliance for Productivity and Innovation, on the Senior Advisory Board of the Syracuse University School of Management, and on the Board of Trustees of Carthage College.
