Join us for a new downtown performance series - 'Late Night at the Lab' featuring: Lowland Hum with Anna Tivel and House Sparrow.

LOWLAND HUM have spent their career refining the particular power of their self-imposed restraint.  The band has spent the last two years on the road in both the US and Europe with the likes of Josh Ritter, Penny and Sparrow, and The Oh Hellos. Over an expansive career they've earned critical praise from NPR, Paste, Huffington Post, American Songwriter, The Washington Post and more.

ANNA TIVEL reaches for that thread of understanding with her music, that moment of recognition, of shared experience.

HOUSE SPARROW are a two-person band driven by synthesizers, tenor guitar, Francesca’s heavenly voice, and a lot of rumination on nature, waiting, death, and time. Band members Francesca Olsen and Joe Aidonidis combine their talents to create a dreamy wall of sound that’s worth a close listen.

At this month's workshop, "Exploring Protest Music," participants will look at the role that music has played as catalyst for change across the ages.  We will discuss how artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Public Enemy, Nina Simone, Bob Marley and many others made a social change with their music. Then, participants will try their hand at writing a protest song relevant to today.

This workshop will be lead by local musician Marisa Massery. Born and raised in the Berkshires in Western MA, her most joyful passion is music and singing. She studied conflict, transformation, and specifically the connection between music and peace-building.

Churchill's play explores the ever-changing world of sexual politics as we follow a British family from colonial Africa to London in the 1970s. Victorian repression clashes with liberal expression as the play shifts between these two worlds. The play is a journey of self-discovery and about self-acceptance. The MCLA audience is asked to think about one of the most powerful struggles of our everyday lives - the struggle to be who we really are to our family, our society, and ourselves. March 8, 9, 12, 13, 14  at 8 pm. March 9 at 2pm

Join us on March 9 to celebrate the opening of three new exhibitions: Trenton Doyle Hancock’s Mind of the Mound: Critical Mass, Rafa Esparza’s staring at the sun, and Tom Slaughter: Icon Alphabet.

Trenton Doyle Hancock’s largest ever solo project will fill our massive Building 5 gallery with forms and figures from the artist’s densely detailed mythologies. Inspired by comic books, superheroes and popular culture — and fully integrating painting, installation, video, and performance — the exhibition represents the “critical mass” of the artist’s vision.

In staring at the sun, artist Rafa Esparza continues his long examination of land, history, and family, transforming one of MASS MoCA’s only “white cube” galleries into a brown gallery built with adobe bricks. Bold lines and primary colors defined Tom Slaughter’s modernist visual vocabulary in his work across media including paintings, silk screens, and illustrations. The new mural, Icon Alphabet stretches across 140 feet, incorporating imagery culled from Slaughter’s work by his daughters, Hannah and Nell Jocelyn (designed by Jimmy Mezei).

With authenticity, humor and wisdom, she addresses her view of the current state of humanity and proclaims her dreams of what could be. Each song is a prayer and a testament to the lessons learned from the challenges she has faced. Expect raw storytelling and most likely some corny jokes.
