Adams Ambulance Warns Against Scam Mailer

ADAMS, Mass. — Adams Ambulance Service is warning residents about a fake subscription drive going out to Berkshire County homes.

The ambulance service released a post on social media Tuesday clarifying that a mailer soliciting donations from residents was not sent out by them.

"We have received a subscription drive in the mail that IS NOT OURS. Please do not send them any money," Adams Ambulance wrote in a short post on Facebook.

The mailer is on white paper with red ink and claims to be from the "Adams Ambulance Squad." Although it claims the same address as Adams Ambulance at 185 Columbia St., the small print claims that the mailer is from ECMG the "professional solicitor of the Adams Ambulance Squad."

The acronym appears to be for East Coast Marketing Group Inc.

The mailer says for further information "on the Adams Ambulance fundraising activities" write to 26 Thomas Drive, Westbrook, ME. ECMG has not been located at that address for at least five years, said a spokesperson for Knockout Strategies, a marketing firm that now owns the building and is in no way related to ECMG.

Adams Ambulance, on the other hand, has asked those with questions about the apparent scam to call the service at 413-743-4783.

The service became aware of the potential scam when the slip appeared in a return envelope along with its own subscription drive card, said Mary Arigoni. The resident who had mailed in the cards did not know where the fake one had come from. Arigoni said she'd looked into the solicitation company as well.

"It's the only one I've seen," she said. "We haven't gotten anymore back but we wanted to get it out there."
